LOTR Immersive Quest

Bespoke Adventure & Interactive Storytelling

Designed and produced a fully interactive, story-driven immersive experience set in the world of The Lord of the Rings, tailored for a small group while adhering to COVID-era social distancing restrictions.

This two-hour, live-action role-playing event blended escape room mechanics, tabletop gaming, theatrical storytelling, and physical challenges, creating a personalized, cohesive narrative that unfolded in real time. Every element was designed to reflect the participant’s interests while ensuring an engaging, collaborative journey for all involved.

Narrative & Experience Design:

  • Developed an original story within Tolkien’s lore, balancing authenticity with personal touches for the guest of honor.

  • Designed a structured gameplay experience with missions, quests, puzzles, and interactive challenges (both mental and physical).

  • Integrated dramatic character arcs for players, including guest appearances from the participant’s closest friends, who embodied Gandalf, a dragon, hobbits, wizards, and a surprise video message from the participant’s mother.

Game & Challenge Development:

  • Created a custom board game as the central structure of the adventure.

  • Designed interactive tasks, including:

    • A combat encounter where the hero had to “kill” a giant spider using blindfolds, balloons, and “swords.”

    • Physical challenges incorporating dance, yoga, and endurance tasks.

    • Logic-based puzzles requiring problem-solving and strategic thinking.

    • A reward system unlocking in-game items and advantages based on achievements.

Collaborative & Personalized Experience Creation:

  • Worked closely with the participant’s spouse and friends to tailor the experience to their interests.

  • Coordinated a cast of 10 remote participants, assigning roles with custom backstories and integrating their ideas into the story.

  • Created a flexible, dynamic experience where participants could engage at different levels, ensuring accessibility for all.

  • Managed the coordination of pre-recorded and live elements, allowing for a fully immersive, interactive experience despite social distancing constraints.

Production & Logistics:

  • Designed and hand-crafted costumes and props to enhance world-building.

  • Managed video submissions, character integration, and narrative adjustments based on participant feedback.

  • Directed the event host by providing a structured guide, allowing them to confidently lead the experience in real time while ensuring smooth transitions between activities.

Results & Impact:

This was a fully realized immersive storytelling experience, blending theatrical roleplay, gameplay mechanics, and interactive challenges into a seamless adventure. Despite social distancing constraints, the experience brought together participants in an unforgettable, highly personalized journey through Middle-earth.

This project showcases my expertise in crafting collaborative, personalized immersive storytelling experiences - whether for individuals, organizations, or meaningful causes. By blending strong narrative design, interactivity, and theatrical production, I create one-of-a-kind adventures designed to leave a lasting impact.
